Letter From OCYSA VP of Fields and Facilities

The greatest asset to OCYSA is the over 50 acres of property either leased to us by the Oldham County Fiscal Court (OCYSA Soccer Complex) or loaned to us by three private property owners, the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, and Oldham County Public Schools.  With the exception of OC Public School grounds, OCYSA mows and maintains this property from a portion of the registration fees paid by all soccer players in the OCYSA family (Rec, Academy, Legends, & TSC).  We receive no local, state, or federal funding for maintaining the properties we use.

The top priority for OCYSA is to provide the highest quality game fields for our players, even though none of the fields are irrigated and our annual operating budget does not allow us to complete major renovation of the fields on a regular basis (hopefully our fundraising will eventually help!).

In recent years, we have implemented a turf management strategy for the game fields within our operating budget, that we believe has been effective in increasing the quality of our fields:  1.) Providing a limited annual turf management program of aeration, fertilization, and reseeding;  2.) Closing fields to minimize turf damage when they are too wet and soft for game play; 3.) Controlling game schedules to insure fields are not overused and allowed to rest.

It is important to note that we have been incorporating this same strategy to a lesser degree in managing our practice fields.  However, the biggest and cheapest field improvement is attained by simply not playing or practicing on wet or soft fields.

Hopefully this gives all OCYSA family members a better understanding of our field usage policies and our strategies to improve the quality of our field turf.  We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding because it will truly improve the OCYSA soccer experience for all our young soccer players.  Thanks!  Steve Bryant

Let’s All Do Our Part to Create and Maintain a Positive Soccer Playing Experience for Our Youth Players.

While watching games, sit back, relax and enjoy the game.  Express  positive support and recognition with both teams.  Please never criticize players, coaches, or referees.  Always keep in mind that players and many referees are only children.  Remember...it is their game!
